Web3 powerhouse Animoca Brands has acquired Notre Game, a Prague-based gaming development company. The first project in wake of the acquisition will be to develop ‘Scratch Lords,’ a new play-and-earn NFT game based on the success and game mechanics of its Web2 counterpart ’Scratch Wars’.
Expected to launch in Q3 of this year, Scratch Lords will essentially add NFT utilisation and trading to the pre-existing Scratch Wars concept, which currently sees players interact with a physical-virtual hybrid mobile collectible card game based on ‘scratchable’ paper cards that are unique, scannable, and can be used both online and offline.
The concept has already gained significant traction, most predominantly within the Czech and Slovakia regions, with the Scratch Wars app generating $2 million in scratch cards sales, with an average paid conversion rate of 12%.
Although, in terms of logistics, the acquisition won’t significantly change the way in which the Czech game developer operates, Notre Game will now be able to leverage the industry transcending appeal of Animoca Brands to expand its products to a more global market and audience. In doing so, it’ll also be able to access the networks, resources, and know-how that is at the disposal of Animoca Brands.
On the flip side, the acquisition sees Animoca Brands gain another experienced game development team, which will help bolster its open metaverse development efforts.
